MILESTONES
June
- work on ‘spinoza’: the new debian machine of Jan van Eyck
- more text on the noise margin
- 2nd: tutorial with Daniel van der Velden: planning of the first experiments on transmutation and the strategy to achieve it
- tutorial with Florian Schneider (?)
- 3rd = Graham intervention: work on the noise margin
- continue debugging and refining project
- simplify metadata structure
- installing on macosx: write documentation and step by step instructions
- publish second version of code with new naming (i am finishing it)
- verbose definition and description of the structure of semantic and genetic relations
- install track (not sure it is necessary though, actual minimal wiki is also fine. what do you think Florian?)
- collaboration with Jack Henryfischer: attempt to implement virtual entity within the ‘index machine’
- second week of june (or later): virtual entity plus goto10 3 days workshop
- june 19th / 21st: italian hackmeeting, milan. presentation.
- follow Nancy Mauro Flude in teaching virtual entity at master students in sidney
July
- experiments of transmutation: limited edition, series of visual works (transmutation and the noise margin). material to be shown in the gallery. FOR SALE!
- piksel application
- the triptych: a postmodern painting in classical style. how to show and display virtual entity in galleries. Posters of the project.
- july 15th / august 2nd = travel to brasil: pure data convention. presentation of virtual entity in Sao Paulo and Salvador do Bahia
August
- research: how to interrogate the database (SQL strings)
- summer camp organized by Laboral and Hangar, Gijon, Spain. virtual entity is one of the nodes: one week working group on metadata, testing and commenting the code, alternatives (i am invited but not sure it is worth it: Florian what do you think?)
- 13th / 16th -→ presentation at hacking at random (not sure: good for involving people in the project though)
- last coding sprint plus release (have to select another coder i think, maybe someone who is also understanding some of the theory. i have one person in mind)
Achievements
- prototype in python working: create edit and display souls, edit relations
- how to interrogate the virtual entity: draft of code and structure
- design of the application and its properties
- users support and teaching
- ‘De sensu rerum et digitalia’ a short essay on the power of imagination by Eleonora Oreggia [to be published as a short book(?!)]
- the triptych
Problems
- define how far is the prototype is supposed to arrive
- find balance between theory and technique (that’s where i am stuck the most)
- clarify objectives and design so to be able to involve other people in the project and have a community of users
Next
- find a team to implement and optimize the python prototype into a web or a stand-alone application
- use the virtual entity as a net art generator
- play with metadata
- piksel (nov 2009)
Notes
- this is obviously an optimistic list, there is the possibility of scaling down some of these points
